Saints Soccer Roster Set for 2024 Season
Liberal, Kansas – Seward County made history a year ago with their inaugural season in 2023 for their men's soccer program that was heavily shaped by freshmen who will return as sophomore leaders for the 2024 campaign, including all six of the Saints All-KJCCC selections from a year ago, to partner with an exciting group of incoming freshmen that Head Coach Jaime Beltran will lead against some of the toughest teams in the NJCAA in the upcoming season.
2023 All KJCCC First Team Goalkeeper Bruno Mestres, will return to man the goal once again for Seward County after placing near the top of multiple stat categories in the NJCAA as a freshman. Mestres ranked in the top five in the country in saves with 122 for a save percentage of .813 while recording four games of 10+ saves in his first year for the Saints. Also returning to Seward County after earning All-KJCCC honors a year ago will be the Saints leading scorer in 2023 in Forward Javier Ruchelli Alvarez alongside Matheus Ambrozio, Alexander Stevens-Lee, Francisco Nava Gomez, and Juan Pablo Murillo Pazos.
Seward County will bring back a majority of their previous roster to provide a plethora of experience at every position on the field. Joining Mestres in the goal is Ashton Miller who appeared in a handful of games as a freshman. The team will also look to a strong group of defenders, such as returners Freddie Walker, Santiago Cocoma, and Tales Ruiz, and newcomers, such as Gustavo Chavez, Ben Holloway, Pepe Sanchez, and Alex Woodberry to keep opponents away from their goal.
Returning in the midfield will be a strong sophomore group led by returners like Juan Lopera, Nate Kelly, and Leonardo Anez, and joined by newcomers such as 2023 Missouri High School Class 3 defensive player of the year Msafiri Ebunga, and Brazilian standouts Leonardo Leitao and Felipe Cooper Flores. They will look to help a forward line that will combine returners like Finlay Mccole and Mateo Molina with some exciting goal scoring options like Enrico DelEllis and Chad Haynes.
The Saints will have a total of 24 returners for their 2024 season who will be accompanied by 20 new freshmen to bolster the team and help pave the way for the next group of future Saints.
