Saints suffer 74-69 overtime loss to Thunderbirds

CONCORDIA, Kan. – The Seward County Community College men's basketball team suffered a tough overtime loss at Cloud County Community College, 74-69, on Wednesday.

Seward dropped to 0-1 in conference play and 1-5 overall on the season. The Saints next play at Cowley College at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 23.

The Saints held a 29-28 halftime lead and built it up to as many as eight points with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. Seward was up 58-53 with 1:38 left after two Dekwon Brown free throws, but did not score the rest of the half and Cloud County went on a 5-0 burst to send the game into overtime.

The extra stanza saw Seward start off fast with a three-pointer by Brown, but Cloud came back and took control. The Saints still had a chance after a Carson Bennett three-pointer trimmed the lead to one, 70-69, with 17 seconds left, but the Thunderbirds ended the game with four free throws to ice the victory.

Brown had 20 points and Muhammed Jobe netted 15 to lead the Saints.

Elidjah Savane scored 19 points, Keyon Grant-Miller added 16 points and Matthew Garber had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Cloud County, which improved to 1-0 in conference play and 7-0 overall on the season.
