Saints flip the script, rally for OT win at Conqs, 93-86

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Seward County Community College men's basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime and go on to post a 93-86 road victory over the Dodge City Conquistadors on Saturday.

The Saints secured their first Jayhawk conference win, improving to 1-4 and 2-8 overall. Seward, which snapped a four-game losing streak, hosts Barton Community College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenhouse. The gameday sponsor is Bank of Beaver City.

The script had finally been flipped for Seward, which had seen several leads evaporate late in games and turn into losses. This time the Saints were on the other side.

Seward trailed 41-28 to Dodge City at the half and was down by as many as nine with under a minute remaining in overtime. But Dodge City turnovers and fouls allowed the Saints to make a furious comeback. Dekwon Brown scored six points, Muhammed Jobe had a basket and Trayon Grant-Foster hit one-of-two free throws with six-tenths of a second left to knot the game at 74 and send the game into overtime. It was only Grant-Foster's second point of the game.

Brown scored the first four points of overtime, giving the Saints a 78-74 lead with 4:19 left. It was Seward's first lead since the first half. Brown also drained a three-pointer to open a seven-point margin with under two minutes remaining. Seward hit its free throws down the stretch and sealed its first conference win of the season.

Brown had 23 points, including a 10-of-10 showing from the free-throw line, and Benni Kazadi added a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds for SCCC, which also got 14 points each from Taky Prosper and Jobe.

Mynor Strong had 17 points and Jamari Gamble and Daouda Cisse each scored 15 for Dodge City, which fell to 2-4 in conference play and 5-7 overall.
