Saints open second-half with a 79-59 loss at Colby

COLBY, Kan. – The Seward County Community College men's basketball team lost on the road to Colby Community College, 79-59, on Monday.

The Saints dropped to 1-7 in the Jayhawk Conference and 2-11 overall. Seward returns home to host Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Greenhouse.

Wednesday's gameday sponsor is 101.5 La Mexicana and 93.9 La Fiesta. Tickets for the game can be picked up at the radio station or the following businesses: BrickHouse BBQ and Brew, Billy's Ayr Lanes and State Farm – Aaron Knudsen.

The teams were scheduled to play on Saturday, but inclement weather and icy conditions postponed the contest until Monday.

The Saints could not get on the winning track despite a tremendous effort by Seward sophomore Carson Bennett, who had a career-high 23 points, including seven, three-pointers.

The story was the same as it has been the first half of the season with Seward falling early, bouncing back, taking the lead and falling at the end. This game was no different with the Saints down 10-0 to start the game and then going on a 21-5 run on the strength of three Bennett triples.

Seward relinquished the lead and trailed 34-29 to Colby at the half.

Once again, the Saints showed their competitive spirit, erasing an 11-point deficit in the second half and knotting the game at 52 on another Bennett three with 10:28 remaining. Seward ran out of steam and Colby used a 13-0 run to salt the game away.

Kiku Parker was the only other Saint in double-digit scoring with 11 points.

Maxence Massadila had 22 points, Eternity Eguagie scored 18 points and Raphael Nagau-Trouart added 16 points to lead the Trojans, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Colby improved to 4-5 in the conference and 9-6 overall.
