Lady Saints cruise past Fort Hays Tech Northwest, 100-27

LIBERAL, Kan. – With every Lady Saint scoring, the Seward County Community women's basketball team rolled to a 100-27 rout of the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers on Saturday at the Greenhouse.

Seward ended its first-half schedule winning six of its last seven games and earning its tenth win of the season. The Lady Saints did not pick up their tenth victory last season until January 24. SCCC is 10-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Lady Saints do not play again until Saturday, January 4 at Colby. Game time is 2 p.m. The next home game is Wednesday, January 8 at 6 p.m. in the Greenhouse.

Ari Gordon started the scoring to give Seward a 2-0 lead while Gloria Fatima answered back for Fort Hays Tech to knot the score at 2-2. That would be the last points for Tigers until the second quarter.

After Fatima's basket, the Lady Saints took over as every starter scored in succession with Kylee Hunt hitting a three-pointer followed by baskets from Gordon, Avery Marchino, Kezia Grant-Bobb and Allie Myers and SCCC was up 13-2 with 5:46 remaining in the first quarter. Seward built a 25-2 advantage after one and opened a 36-2 margin before Fort Hays Tech hit a three for only its second basket of the game with 5:21 left in the second quarter. SCCC held a 45-7 lead at the half.

Destiny Alexander had 14 points, Marchino scored 13, Hunt added 11 points and Maddy Kincaide, Biyyanah Ellis, Gordon and Myers each chipped in with 10 points as all 13 Seward players scored.

The Lady Saints played smothering defense, holding the Tigers to 3-of-26 shooting in the first half and 11-of-53 the game. SCCC also forced 22 turnovers while only committing eight.

Al'asia Brown had 10 points and Alba Garrido Lamas scored six points to pace Fort Hays Tech, who remained winless on the season at 0-12 and 0-8 in conference play.
