Lady Saints fall at Colby, 65-59
COLBY, Kan. – The Seward County Community College women's basketball team battled back from a double-digit deficit, but fell short on the road to Colby Community College, 65-59, on Monday.
The Lady Saints dropped to 5-3 in the Jayhawk Conference and 10-4 overall. Seward lost for only the second time in its last eight games. SCCC returns home to host Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Greenhouse.

The teams were scheduled to play on Saturday, but inclement weather and icy conditions postponed the contest until Monday.
It was a game of runs between Seward and Colby. The Trojans started the contest off hot with a 9-2 run before the Lady Saints came back and cut the deficit to one at 11-10 midway through the first quarter. Colby ended the period with another spurt, going on an 8-0 surge to take a 19-10 advantage.
Seward managed to whittle the lead down to five, early in the second quarter, but again Colby responded with another burst and opened a 34-21 margin at the half.
The third quarter belonged to the Lady Saints who came all the way back to knot the score at 41 with 2:23 left in the third on the strength of a 20-7 run. Colby answered back and held a 47-44 advantage after three quarters.
Seward kept on coming and used four free throws to open the final stanza and took its first lead of the game at 48-47 with 8:48 remaining. After trading three pointers and the Lady Saints holding a 51-50 lead, the Trojans used a final run, scoring the next 11 points, to put the game away.
Kylee Hunt and Kezia Grant-Bobb led the way for the Lady Saints with 13 points each and Amanda Marchino added 11 points. Seward played without Ari Gordon, who was sidelined with an illness.
Sofia Lopez had 23 points and Jera Kruleski scored 16 points to pace the Trojans, who improved to 5-4 in conference play and 10-5 overall.
