Hopkins, Cox power Saints to 18-10 win at Lamar
LAMAR, Colo. – Nathan Hopkins and Greg Cox each belted a pair of homers to lead the Seward County Community College baseball team to an 18-10 win in a non-conference matchup at Lamar Community College on Tuesday.
Hopkins went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Cox went 2-for-4 with four RBI for the Saints, who improved to 10-13 overall. Seward also received big games from Kotaro Wakui with three hits and drove in four runs, Brooks Barber with two hits and three RBI and Jackson Phillips went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Seward scored first with a five-run, first inning, but Lamar battled back and took a 10-7 lead on three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Saints answered back by scoring 11 runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away.
Seward finished with strong pitching as Koshiro Ohno and Michael Lujan ended the contest with three scoreless innings. Ohno allowed one hit and struck out over two innings to earn the win. Lujan struck out two and walked two to close out the ninth.
The Saints will play Redlands Community for a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Brent Gould Field. Due to the impending weather conditions, the games were pushed back from Friday to Sunday.
