The Saints fall in their trip to Texas

TEXAS - Seward County Community College fell short in their weekend in Texas as they traveled to Odessa on Friday and Midland on Saturday. The Saints fell in their first doubleheader 5-4 and 9-7 against the Wranglers. On Saturday at Midland Seward County fell 7-3, and 8-0 to end their weekend trip. The Saints are now 4-8 on the year and will be back in action this Friday at Vernon College starting at 1 p.m. CT. 

Game 1 At Odessa

Seward County struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Saints continued to extend their lead with a run in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to lead the Wranglers 4-0. Odessa responded in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at six all in the seven-inning game. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wranglers had the bases load, and the Saints walked in the go-ahead run to fall to the Wranglers 5-4.

From the plate, Ranse Radtke recorded a home run and an RBI. Jarron Wilcox and Tristan Curless recorded a double and an RBI for the Saints. 

Elias Herrera recorded the loss for the Saints and went 1.2 innings with three hits, and one earned run, and one strikeout. Brian Luna Alvarez pitched five innings with four hits, four earned runs, and six strikeouts in his starting role from the mound. 

Game 2 At Odessa

The Wranglers started the game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. The Saints responded with a three-run inning in the second, but the Wranglers extended their lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning, 5-3. The Saints could tie the game at five, all with a pair of runs in the fourth. Odessa scored a run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and a run in the seventh to take a 9-5 lead. Seward County scored two runs in the top of the ninth but could not climb out of the late deficit as they fell 9-7 in the final game on Friday, February 17th. 

Trent Gerber started the game for the Saints and went 3.1 innings with three hits, three earned runs, and two strikeouts. Aiden Moore picked up the loss and went in 4.2 innings, seven hits, six earned runs, and five strikeouts. 

Game 1 At Midland

Seward County opened up their doubleheader at Midland College with two runs in the top of the second inning, and Midland responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Chapps scored a run in the fifth and followed that up with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Saints answered with a run in the top of the seventh but fell short 7-3 to Midland in game one. 

Elijah Bear went two for three from the plate with an RBI double. 

Tristan Curless pitched the game with seven hits, three earned runs, and four strikeouts from the mound. 

Game 2 At Midland

Midland started game two with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Saints were unable to answer the early lead for the Chapps. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Midland added to their lead with another run to make it 5-0. The Chapps went on to score three more runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-0 lead, and the Saints could not answer at the top of the seventh. 

Bo Jacob Garza received the loss in the starting role for the Saints as he went four innings with five earned runs and six strikeouts. Brady Ritmann pitched the final two innings with three earned runs and two strikeouts for the Saints.

Seward County is now 4-8 on the year and will be back in action this Friday at Vernon for a four-game series that stretches into Saturday.
