DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Seward County Community College softball team lost a doubleheader at Dodge City Community College, 11-3 and 10-6, on Wednesday.
The Lady Saints fell to 4-10 in the Jayhawk Conference and 10-18 overall. Seward hosts Barton for games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday at French Family Field.
GAME ONE
Seward kept it close early, but Dodge City kept on the pressure and ended up with a run-rule win.
The Conquistadors struck quickly with a three-run, first inning to take the lead. The Lady Saints answered back in the following inning with their own three-run outburst to tie the game at 3-3. Hailey Michalik blasted a two-run homer and Kynleigh Kirby scored on a wild pitch to account for the Seward runs.
That would be the extent of the Lady Saint offense which was held scoreless the rest of the way and managed only five hits.
Dodge City took the lead at 4-3 in the third inning and put the game away with five runs in the fourth. The Conquistadors added three more runs in the fifth inning for the run-rule victory.
GAME TWO
Seward struck first, but Dodge City unleashed an offensive barrage and managed to come away with the win.
The Lady Saints took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Conquistadors came back with two runs in the first inning, three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth to open 7-1 advantage.
Seward did close the gap with a run in the fifth inning and three more runs in the sixth to cut the margin to 7-5. The Lady Saints could get no closer as Dodge City scored three runs to open a 10-5 lead and put the game on ice. Seward added a run in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring.
Alyssa Morgan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a homer and Jolee Limon had a solo homer for the Lady Saints.
Amanda Jack pitched well for Seward in relief, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, striking out one and walking one over 2 1/3 innings.
