Lady Saints sweep on Sophomore Day

LIBERAL, Kan. –In their last regular season home series of the year, the Lady Saints' sophomores put on a show to help their team to victory. Seward County swept non-conference opponent North Platte to improve to 21-27 on the year while remaining at 11-17 in the KJCCC.

Game one saw the Lady Saints jump out early with 5 first inning runs that started with a leadoff single for Aaliyah Gutierrez. After Gutierrez got on base, Avery Ragsdale and Marisela Landa both recorded hits with Ragsdale's single scoring Gutierrez and Landa's double scoring Ragsdale. The next three runs in the inning came after a Taylor Grubbs bases-loaded triple that capped off a great first inning effort for the Lady Saints.

Seward County would then go on to score three more runs in the second inning and five more runs in the third inning. Those 8 extra runs would be the deciding factor in the victory for the Lady Saints as they were able to run rule the Knights from North Platte after 5 innings with a score of 13-5. Aaliyah Gutierrez was the starting pitcher for the Lady Saints and she went 2.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs. In relief, NaTalia Sewell came in for the last 3 innings for the Lady Saints and struck out 6 batters while allowing 2 runs.

Game two was much more of a pitcher dual as both teams struggled to score runs. Sewell pitched a gem, giving up only one unearned run thru 6.2 innings while striking out 7 and only giving up 7 hits. After Sewell came Ashanti Thompson from the bullpen.
