Dan Artamenko Steps Down as Athletic Director

Liberal, Kansas – After five years as Seward County Community College's Athletic Director, Dan Artamenko has stepped down. Artamenko accepted an Athletic Director position at the NCAA Division III level with Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wis.
"I am deeply grateful for the incredible journey I had with this community," said Artamenko. "Working alongside such dedicated coaches and colleagues has been an honor. Thank you to President Brad Bennett for his ongoing support. It's always been Good To Be Green!"
During his tenure at SCCC, Artamenko hired a head coach for every sport except baseball, building programs back to full strength after the sports season interruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. He headed up the establishment of three new programs at the College — men's and women's soccer, and eSports, all of which are poised to begin their second seasons in 2024-25.
High points for Saints athletics in the past five years included multiple teams advancing to their respective NJCAA National Tournaments, including men's tennis (2022 national winners), and volleyball coming within one point of a championship (2020 National tournament).
As a member of the SCCC COVID-Response team, Artamenko served as a trained reporter in concert with the Seward County Health Department. He also headed up campus-wide use of health tracking apps and group inoculations for athletes.
In his final year at the helm, Artamenko saw multiple high points for Saints athletics. Saints softball recorded its best season since 2018 with multiple records broken and set. Men's and women's tennis placed in the top six at their NJCAA National Tournaments. The Lady Saints women's basketball team bounced back from the prior year with a winning season under first-year head coach Will Marchino. Freshman Allie Myers placed in the top five in the NJCAA in rebounds per game.
During its inaugural season, men's soccer found success as the team finished the regular season one game over .500 while going undefeated in nonconference action.
"We all appreciate Dan's work over the past five years," said SCCC President Brad Bennett. "He helped guide our student athletes and set our programs up for success. We wish him the best."
