The Lady Saints fall 68-48 to the Cougars

GREAT BEND, Kan. - Seward County Community College fell at Barton Community College 68-48 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Saints led 33-28 at halftime but got outscored 40-15 in the second half. Seward County moves to 14-14 on the year and 12-10 in the KJCCC.

The Lady Saints will have their last regular season game on Wednesday, February 22nd, as they host Hutchinson Community College at 6 p.m. CT. 

D'Arrah Allen led Seward County with 14 points and eight rebounds. Halima Salat provided ten points, De'Shawnti Thomas had nine, and Ariana Escalante went 2-3 from the field for six points. 

Seward County started the game in a 7-0 deficit to Barton with seven minutes left in the opening quarter. The Lady Saints stormed back with a 9-1 run to take the lead 9-8 after an Allen put-back layup. A three at the buzzer for the Cougars gave them a 17-14 advantage over the Lady Saints at the end of the first quarter. 

Alianna Colon knocked down a three to give the Lady Saints a 19-17 lead after a minute of play in the second quarter. Seward County took a 24-21 as they entered the media timeout at 4:47. The Cougars came out of the timeout and regained the lead 25-24. Seward County closed out the second quarter on a 9-3 run to head into halftime with a 33-28 advantage. 

Seward County continued their five-point lead, 35-30, at the nine-minute mark of the third quarter. Barton responded with a 10-0 run to take a 40-35 lead over Seward County at the media timeout. The Cougars continued to separate themselves in the quarter as the Lady Saints trailed 50-42 at the end of the third quarter. 

The fourth quarter started with another 10-0 for the Cougars as they took a 60-42 lead, their largest lead. The Lady Saints shot just 13% from the field in the quarter and did not convert a three-pointer. Seward County was outscored 18-6 in the final frame as they fell 68-48 to the Cougars. 

The Lady Saints will have their last regular season home game on Wednesday against Hutchinson. Seward County will recognize its sophomores' hard work and dedication to the program.
