Following a 25-5 regular season and a 2nd place finish in the Jayhawk West standings, three Seward County Lady Saints were rewarded by the league on Monday as Shanise Brooks, Korina Chapman, and Alana Simon were all named to Jayhawk West All-Conference Teams.

The Seward County Lady Saints found themselves on the wrong end of the first shocker of the Region VI Tournament on Wednesday as they were knocked off 61-56 by a Barton team that they had beat twice by a combined 33 points during the regular season in 2014.

The Seward County Lady Saints made short work of the Neosho County Panthers Saturday night in the Greenhouse as the Region VI Tournament opened on their home turf, taking a 48-12 lead into the half before blowing the Panthers away 90-36 to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Region VI Tournament on Wednesday where they will have their third matchup of the season with the Barton Lady Cougars.

With only pride on the line, the #20 Seward County Lady Saints came out Wednesday night in their final Jayhawk West Conference game of the season strong, cooling off a red hot Pratt Lady Beavers team with a 72-54 win to pick up their 25th win of the season. The first half was a close, back and forth affair which Seward led 38-32 at the half. The second half was a different story as the Lady Saints opened things up early in the half and coasted to the 18 point win.

The Seward County Lady Saints fought against the elements on Saturday night in their final regular season road trip of the 2014 season against Cloud County. Seward started slow after the six hour trip to Concordia and then early on lost one of their top players in Korina Chapman with an injury. Already thin on the inside with Chapman being out, Seward saw their other three forwards all battle foul trouble throughout the night and eventually went down 79-71 despite a valiant late game effort for their third loss in their last five games.

It was a tale of two halves for the Seward County Lady Saints on Wednesday night in the Greenhouse as they used a stifling defensive attack to hold visiting Barton to just 19 first half points and scored 44 points in the second half to run away from the Lady Cougars 69-42 to clinch home court advantage for the 1st round of the upcoming Region VI Tournament.

For 22 years, the Seward County Lady Saints dominated their rivalry with Garden City in the Greenhouse, not dropping a single game. Wednesday night, the Lady Busters came to Liberal and made it two straight wins in the Greenhouse against Seward, knocking off the Lady Saints 57-56 thanks to a last second bucket from Zantaya Davis with just 2.1 left on the clock.

For the second time this season the Seward County Lady Saints and Hutchinson Lady Blue Dragons locked up on the court in a game with first place in the Jayhawk West on the line. For the second time this season, both teams were ranked inside the NJCAA's top 10 at the time of the contest. For the second time this season, Seward held a halftime lead on the favored Dragons. And for the second time this season, it was Hutchinson coming out of the game with a win. Seward was up by four at the half and by as many as seven in the second half, but on their home court, the Lady Dragons stormed back, downing Seward 81-71 in the Sports Arena Saturday night to remain perfect on the season while all but dashing the Lady Saints chances of a run at the 2014 Jayhawk West crown.

Some Seward fans were worried about Wednesday night’s game against Colby, not because they thought the game would be in doubt, but because the Lady Saints might overlook the 2-22 Lady Trojans with Saturday’s battle with Hutchinson waiting on the horizon. It is hard to tell if the Lady Saints overlooked Colby, but they certainly didn’t click on all cylinders en route to an 80-56 final score.
