Brooks, Chapman, & Simon Named All-Jayhawk West

Following a 25-5 regular season and a 2nd place finish in the Jayhawk West standings, three Seward County Lady Saints were rewarded by the league on Monday as Shanise Brooks, Korina Chapman, and Alana Simon were all named to Jayhawk West All-Conference Teams.

Sophomore Shanise Brooks was named 1st Team All-Jayhawk West by the coaches Monday after a season in which she led Seward in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots.  Brooks was the 6th leading scorer in the Jayhawk West this season with her 15.0 points per game and ranked 7th in rebounding at 7.6 a night.  Her 2.3 blocked shots per game was far and away best in the Jayhawk West this season and ranked her in the top 20 nationally in the category.  Brooks scored in double figures in all but one Jayhawk West game this season and in 26 of 30 Seward games on the season.  She cracked the 20 point mark five different times on the year including a career high 34 point performance against Oklahoma Baptist early in the season.  Brooks becomes the first Lady Saint to be named 1st Team All-Jayhawk West since Ashlynn Knoll received the honor in 2011 and Brooks is just the fourth different Lady Saint to be named 1st Team All-Jayhawk West since the 2008 season.

The other half of Seward's inside duo, sophomore Korina Chapman, was named 2nd Team All-Jayhawk West in her only season with the Lady Saints.  The Boston College transfer finished the year 2nd on the team with 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots per game, while finishing 3rd in points per game with 11.5.  Chapman scored in double figures for Seward seven times during conference play and 19 different times on the year.

The Jayhawk West Awards went to Hutchinson and Pratt as the Beavers Tatiana Grant was named Most Valuable Player, Hutch coach John Ontjes was named Coach of the Year and Lady Dragon forward Kalani Purcell was named the Freshman of the Year.

The three Lady Saints on the All-Conference squad tied for most in the league with Hutchinson and Barton who both had three as well.

Brooks, Chapman, and Simon will look to continue their season success this afternoon in Wichita as they play in the quarterfinal round of the Region VI Tournament at 3:00 against the Barton Lady Cougars.
