Saints Esports Weekly Recap

Liberal, KS – Pick it back up.

Smash Brothers and Fortnite were back in action on Tuesday as the Saints faced off against Southwest Illinois College in a race to see who could get the most kills. Luis Ortiz and Adan Rodriguez came in hot, more than doubling their opponents score in the first round and in the second round was even more successful as the SWIC players fell early in the set, giving the Saints free space to rack up the score as the Green team won the match 2 – 0.

Priscilla Davis had a quick set against her opponent from Spoon River College where she got up early against the SRC player and didn't let up, finishing the bout with a score of 4 – 0.  Edward Rios went against Atlantic Cape Community College and had a hard time against the ACCC player, unable to knock him off the map, resulting in him falling 0–4.

The Overwatch team fell in a quick set on Wednesday night against Heartland Community College. Character selections gave the Saints trouble all evening long, as the green team felt like they were fighting an uphill battle with HCC taking the set against SCCC 3 – 0.

The Madden teams returned Wednesday and, like the previous week, were guaranteed at least one win and one loss.  This time it was Moran against Davis in a best of 3 series. Davis won the first game handily. Moran came back in the second match but couldn't overcome his fellow Saint as Davis won the contest 2 – 0.  Powdrill took on Louisburg Community College on the digital gridiron and had a tough time against his opponent. Powdrill was up until the last quarter of the game when the LCC player scored a touchdown along with a quick field goal to go up and win the match and could never recover, falling 2-0 on the night.

Nicholas Benson and Dwayne Moran squared up against Heartland Community College Thursday night for Call of Duty 2v2 action.  It was a hard-fought set, but the HCC crew kept the Saints in check for all three rounds of the best of five series with the Saints falling on the night 0 – 3.

Thursday also saw Mario Kart action as four members of the Green team raced for their lives. Priscilla Davis went head-to-head against Northwestern College in a best of 7 series while Edward Rios raced against a player from Marshalltown Community College. The Marshalltown player knew all the shortcuts and had all the speed, leaving Rios trailing early with him losing in a sweep on the night with a score of 0 – 4. Landon Davis went against a different player from Marshalltown with the MCC player winning the first round, but Davis came back to win in the second. Unfortunately, the MCC player ran away with the next 3 races, leaving Davis playing catch-up and falling overall 1 – 4. Lyz Taylor hit the starting line against a player from Trinity Valley Community College and faced an uphill race all night long. She couldn't quite overtake the TVCC player and fell in a quick set 0 – 4.

The Valorant Squad hit the arena against Three Rivers Community College also on Thursday night.  After losing a couple of rounds early, the Saints rallied back to take the first game and in the second set it was all Green team as the Saints poured it on hard to win on the night overall 2 – 0.

Friday night hailed the return of Rocket League and Rainbow 6.  The Saints Rocket League team was scheduled against SUNY Corning, but the CCC team declined to show as they forfeited the match in favor of the Saints.

Rainbow 6 saw themselves up against Jamestown Community College Jayhawks Friday night. The Saints came out swinging, quickly taking 3 rounds off JCC before the Jayhawks could answer back.  The Green team won the first game 7 – 1. The second game of the set, the Jayhawks fared slightly better, but the Saints still had their number all night.  SCCC won the game 7 – 4 and finished the set 2 – 0.
