Seward County fell at Coffeyville 76-66; on to Regionals

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - Seward County Community College fell in their final regular season game of the season 76-66 at Coffeyville on Saturday night. The Lady Saints will end the regular season with a 14-16 overall record and a 12-12 conference record. Seward County has a bye on Wednesday and will wait to see who they will host in the first round of the Region VI Tournament on Saturday, March 4th, at 6 p.m. CT.

D'Arrah Allen led the Lady Saints with 26 points, four rebounds, and three assists in the contest. Halima Salat added 18 points, Kylee Hunt had nine. 

The Lady Saints struck first with a three by Salat in the first minute of action, but the Red Ravens responded with a 14-2 run to take a 14-5 lead with six minutes left. Allen went on a 5-0 of her own, and with a minute left in the quarter, Seward County trailed 18-13. Coffeyville connected on a three in their final possession of the quarter to take a 21-13 advantage into the second quarter. 

The Red Ravens took a ten-point lead with a field goal to start the second quarter, 23-13. The Lady Saints battled back with a 7-2 run capped off with a three by Alianna Colon and trailed the Red Ravens 25-20 with 5:43 left before halftime. Seward County went scoreless for the next three minutes as Coffeyville went on a 9-0 run to lead 34-21. With another three in the final seconds for the Red Ravens, the Lady Saints went into the break trailing 42-27. 

Seward County faced its most significant deficit of the contest as the Red Ravens led 48-30 with 7:46 left in the third quarter. Seward County responded with a three by Salat, bringing them back down by 13, 50-43. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Saints trailed 58-42 as they entered the final quarter of action. 

For the first minute and a half, both teams were scoreless until Colon knocked down a three to make it a 13-point game, 58-45. Seward County faced an 18-point deficit once again, 63-45, after a Coffeyville free throw. The Lady Saints went on a 15-4 and trailed the Red Ravens 67-60 with two minutes left in the contest.

Thomas knocked down a three with 1:32 left and made it a two-possession game, 69-63. the Lady Saints had to play the foul game late in the contest, and the Red Ravens went 6-0 from the line to defeat Seward County 76-66.

The Lady Saints will host a first-round match in the Region VI tournament this Saturday, March 4th, with the opponent to be determined. We will provide an update after Wednesday night's conference games.
