Seward County rolls on Homecoming 80-53 vs Cowley

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeated Cowley College 80-53 on Saturday afternoon in the Greenhouse. The freshman Alianna Colon had a career-high 21 points and seven three-pointers in the contest to lead the Lady Saints. Seward County improves to 14-12 on the year and 12-8 in the KJCCC and is currently one game back from fourth place.

Halima Salat added 14 points and five rebounds, and De'Shawnti Thomas had 10 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. 

The Lady Saints started the game with back-to-back threes as Colon got the scoring started, followed by A'Arrah Allen as Seward county led 6-3. Colon connected on her second three-pointer at the seven-minute mark to give the Lady Saints an 11-5 advantage. The two offenses slowed as the first quarter concluded, with Seward County leading 15-11 over Cowley.

In the second quarter, the Lady Saints extended their lead 24-16 after a Salat three-pointer with 7:30 left before halftime. Seward County continued to separate themselves from Coley after Thomas got a layup to fall that gave the Lady Saints a 34-21 advantage. The Tigers fought back before halftime as the Lady Saints went into the break with a 34-28 lead.

Seward County started the third quarter on fire as Colon hit back-to-back threes to give the Lady Saints a 42-30 lead over the Tigers with eight minutes on the clock. Salat connected on a three halfway through the quarter to give Seward County a 56-39 advantage and continued to separate themselves from Cowley.

The Lady Saints shot 70% from the field in the third quarter and 77% from behind the three-point line. Seward County went into the fourth quarter with a 66-45 advantage over Cowley after outscoring the Tigers 32-17 in the third.

The Lady Saints kept their 20-point lead in the fourth quarter, and after a timeout by Seward County, they had a 71-51 lead with five minutes left. Seward County closed the game on a 9-3 run to win 80-53 over Cowley on Saturday. 

Seward County will travel to Goodland, Kansas, to take on the Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, February 15th.
