Preview: Lady Saints Finish Season-Opening Homestand Against Butler

LIBERAL, Kan. – The No. 8 Seward County women's basketball team will end its four-game home stand on Wednesday night (Nov. 15) when the Lady Saints take on Butler (4-0, 1-0) inside the Greenhouse at 6:00 p.m.

Seward County (4-0, 1-0) is coming off a win in their conference opener against the No. 12 Hutchinson Blue Dragons, 60-47. Sophomore Mollie Mounsey led all scorers with 15 points, while two other Lady Saints – Silvia Veloso (12) and Vanessa Caro (10) – hit double-digit points as well. Defense was the name of the game as Seward forced 34 turnovers, 20 of which were steals.  Nine Lady Saints came away with at least one steal in the contest, with Mounsey leading the pack with six.

Butler defeated Garden City to open their conference play, defeating the Broncbusters handedly, 77-53. The Grizzlies are led by four players who average double-digit points – Ericka Mattingly (13.0 ppg), Kyla Callins (12.3 ppg), Jalise Smallwood (11.5 ppg) and Awreona Ransom (10.8 ppg).  Butler comes into the game scoring 88 points per game, while holding their opponents to just 40 points per game. Defensively, they force 28 turnovers, while only committing 16.

The Lady Saints ride a four-game winning streak against the Grizzlies, with their last loss coming in 2015 in a 61-68 loss coming in the Greenhouse.  Head Coach Toby Wynn holds a 20-2 record against Butler, with his one other loss coming in 2013 in a 61-64 loss in El Dorado.  Seward County leads the all-time series 55-21.
