Purtue Signs With Lindsey Wilson College

The four time defending Jayhawk West Champion Seward County Saints had their first sophomore sign on Tuesday as forward Quentin Purtue inked on the dotted line with Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky.

Purtue averaged 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for the Saints this season, helping lead them to an unprecedented fourth straight Jayhawk West title.  The emotional leader for the Saints, Purtue stepped his game up for Seward during conference action, averaging just under 10 points per game while shooting over 50% from the field and 84% from the free throw line.  Purtue scored in double figures 13 times on the year including back to back 20 point efforts in early December.  In Purtue's 10 highest scoring games of the year, the Saints were a perfect 10-0.  Purtue posted his lone double-double on the year against Dodge City late in the Jayhawk West season, scoring 14 points and grabbing a career high 11 rebounds against the Conqs in an 88-59 Saints win.

Purtue will join a Lindsey Wilson squad as a junior next season after a 16-15 campaign for the Blue Raiders.  Lindsey Wilson plays in the highly competitive NAIA Mid-South Conference where they finished 7-11 a season ago with five of those losses coming to teams either ranked, or receiving votes in the NAIA polls.  Purtue will play under veteran Head Coach Paul Peck who has been at the helm for the Blue Raiders for the past 12 seasons.  Also on Peck's staff is former Saint Chris Starks who played for Seward from 1988-1990.

When asked what he would miss most about Seward, an emotional Purtue said "Everything.  This place gave me a chance to better my life and I am forever changed because of what Seward and Coach Z (Zollinger) has done for me."  Talking about his next step in his college journey, Purtue said about signing at Lindsey Wilson "I am really looking forward to getting there and working hard with my new team.  The campus was beautiful and it just seemed like the right place for me."
