Saints Esports Weekly Recap

Liberal, KS – Another week full of high-level competition for the Saints eSports team as they competed all week long in their games to grow their success as a first-year program

Saints Esports kicked off the week on Monday with a makeup game from the previous week in Overwatch. They faced off against SUNY Herkimer at 5:30 in a best of 5 matchup.  Julienne Salazar, Caden McCain, Christina Nguyen and Eileen Romo came out swinging.  They rolled through 3 straight matches, taking the win 3 – 0 that puts the Green team starting off the season undefeated in League play with a record of 2 – 0.

Tuesday saw Smash Brothers and Fortnite action in action for Seward County. The Fortnite duo, consisting of Luis Ortiz and Adan Rodriguez made sure they brought the win home Tuesday night as they scored double what their opponents from Louisburg College Virginia did in the first round to seal the set. The second round was much closer as LCV tried to close the gap, but in the end, they could not overcome the Green team as the Saints won the match 2 – 0.

The Smash Brothers team had mixed success that night against their opponents. Priscilla Davis squared off against Mott Community College in Michigan in a best of 7 bout with the MCC player getting up early and kept Davis off the map, sweeping the set 4 – 0. Marcos Montoya went against Heartland Community College in his set and turned up the heat. Montoya went for four straight wins to secure the victory 4 – 0 over her foe to grab a win in favor of SCCC.  Edward Rios made his debut Tuesday night on the Smash Brothers team as he entered the ring against Lorain County Community College which Rios was unable to find momentum and fell 0-4 on the night.

The Madden teams returned Wednesday and were guaranteed at least one win and one loss.  Powdrill and Moran were pitted against each other in a best of 3 contest on the digital gridiron. It was a back-and-forth contest with Moran and Powdrill taking one game off each other.  In the end, Powdrill won the set 2 – 1.  Landon Davis went against a player from North Central Missouri College for his battle over the virtual pigskin but unfortunately was unable to overcome the NCMC player and fell on the night 0 – 2.

Thursday night saw some Call of Duty gunfight action as Benson and Moran faced off against Glen Oaks Community College in a 2v2, best of 5 set.  The Saints took the first two games off the GOCC crew that helped propel them in front early as the Saints put down the Vikings handily, winning on the night with a score of 3 – 1.

Mario Kart also returned Thursday night with more racing action on Rainbow Road led by Priscilla Davis who went head-to-head against Northwestern College in a best of 7 set.  Davis put her foot on the gas and never let up, winning her set 4 – 0 over her opponent to start the success for Seward County.  Lyz Taylor squared off against a different member of the NWC team for her match up and Talyor did not fare as well as her teammate against the Trappers and lost her set 1 – 4. Landon Davis had a hard time against Marshalltown in his race, falling in his matchup 0 – 4. Edward Rios continued his undefeated streak against a Glen Oaks racer, taking down his opponent 4 – 0 in a quick set.

The Rocket League team still played against their opponent from Finger Lakes Community College, but due to the server issues one of the FLCC players was unable to log in, forcing the Lakers to play the set 2v3 against the Saints. After conferring with the coaches and team captains, the game was allowed to continue with FLCC a man down. The Saints easily came away with the win in three straight games in the best of 5 set.
