Myers’ Career High Results in Road Win Over Cowley

Liberal, Kansas – After recording her first twenty-point scoring game of the season with a career high of 22 in her last outing, Allie Myers topped that with a monster double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Seward County Lady Saints to their fifth straight win as SCCC knocked off the Cowley Tigers for the second time to complete the season sweep.

Following a dominant win this past Wednesday to keep their win streak alive, Seward County made the trip out East towards Arkansas City, Kansas to face off the Tigers of Cowley where the opening minutes were a back-and-forth matchup as both sides exchanged blows. Jamia Carter found Xoe Rosalez in the corner for a knockdown three to give the Lady Saints their first lead of the game 7-4, but the Tigers were able to jump back in front as they grew their lead out to seven until a triple from Naomi Aragonez cut it back to four 20-16 to end the first quarter.

Cowley kept their foot on the gas, but Seward County never let their foe get out of reach as Alianna Colon opened the second quarter with another Lady Saints three-pointer and a few possessions later Myers showed her presence on the boards with an offensive rebound leading to a putback plus the foul to trim the deficit to 31-27. A late three from Kayla Peoples with the shot clock winding down gave SCCC some momentum heading into the break with the Tigers ahead 35-31.

Myers dominated the third quarter where she scored 13 of her 25 points on the afternoon as she forced her way past two defenders for another offensive rebound and put it back up for a layup that kept the gap at four until the Lady Saints caught fire and made a run to retake the lead 45-43 off a big triple from Myers at the top of the arc. Peoples dropped a dime to Carter in the post for an easy two points to keep the run going to 15-4 as they grew their advantage out to nine and another three from Myers ended the third with SCCC up 58-49 over the Tigers with ten minutes left to play.

Cowley closed in on the Lady Saints quickly with a 7-0 run to open the fourth but a steal and score by Myers followed by a knockdown three from Peoples grew the Seward County lead back out to 63-56 with six minutes left to play. The Tigers however did not back away as they continued to close the gap down to as much as one to force the Lady Saints into a crucial timeout to create a plan to come out on top. Some hard-nosed defense from Myers and Rosalez in the paint led to a missed shot by Cowley, leading to the Tigers fowling Rosalez who sunk in a pair at the line to seal the deal as Seward County came out on top 71-68 to increase their win streak to five.

Myers ended the afternoon with a new career high for the second straight game with 25 points to go with 16 rebounds and 4 steals. Peoples came off the bench and scored 12 points while Carter added on another 9 for the Lady Saints.

Seward County now improves to 12-8 overall on the 2023-24 season while also moving up to 8-6 in the Jayhawk conference. They will return back to the Green House on Wednesday to face off with the nationally ranked Grizzlies of Butler with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 PM
