Lady Saints Fall to Grizzlies in Key Conference Matchup

Liberal, KAN. – Wednesday afternoon the Seward County Lady Saints volleyball team took the floor at home inside of the Green House in an afternoon matchup against their conference rival in the Butler Grizzlies, where SCCC was unable to stop Butler's rampage as the Grizzlies swept the Lady Saints on their home court 3-0.

Butler started the first set of the match strong with a quick 8-2 lead over Seward County and their lead only grew from there. Back-to-back kills from Jazmyn Kistller cut the deficit to five at 13-8 but that was as close as the Lady Saints would get as the Grizzlies grew the score to 20-15 before completing the first set win at 25-19 over Seward County.

Once again Butler claimed an early lead over the Lady Saints in the second but a kill down the middle from Lajla Rasljanin helped bring SCCC within reach at 10-6. That reach would grow farther as the Grizzlies would grow it to six at 14-8 to force a Seward County timeout before Kistller connected at the pin for a kill to bring the score back to within four at 16-12. Rafaela DaSilva found Marcelina Pyka off the slide for an absolute rocket to cut the Butler lead to one at 18-17 and momentum looked to be on the Lady Saints side, but SCCC couldn't take the set over as the Grizzlies grew won the second set 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third the Lady Saints and Grizzlies kept it close between one another as Kistller connected on a kill from the left pin to cut the Butler lead to 10-8 before the Grizzlies went on a 6-1 run to increase their lead to 16-9 and continued to pull away from there as they would take the third 25-13 to complete the 3-0 sweep over Seward County.

SCCC volleyball now falls to 11-10 on the 2023 season with a conference record of 3-5 in KJCCC action. They will hit the road this Saturday to begin the second half of conference action for the season when they head to Colby, Kansas to face off with the Trojans at 2:00 PM.
