Saints Shocked on the Road by Cloud County

Liberal, Kansas – With Jayhawk conference action kicking off, the Seward County Saints men's basketball team made the trip out to Cloud County to kick off KJCCC play inside of the Thunderdome against the Thunderbirds who quickly struck first and never looked back, knocking off the Saints 82-57.

It was all Cloud County from the jump as the T-Birds pushed ahead of the Saints 11-5 in the first five minutes and from their Seward County could never recover. Jaden Martin found the rock off an offensive board that led to an athletic dunk to put the score at 18-9 but the deficit quickly grew back out to double figures as the Saints fell behind 25-13. Blessin Kimble used his size in the paint on a strong post move score to get Seward County another two points with Cloud County still ahead 32-18 before entering halftime down 34-20 against the T-Birds.

The second half was worse than the first as Cloud County refused to let go of their momentum as they forced a Saints' timeout early with a 45-25 lead that grew more and more by the second. Kimble once again used his strength to his advantage, grabbing in another offensive board for a put-back to put the score at 57-32, but it couldn't help ignite the fire for SCCC as the T-Birds ran away with the conference opener 82-57 over the Saints.

Seward County now falls to 2-3 on the 2023-24 season and behind Jayhawk conference action 0-1. They will return to Liberal, Kansas on Tuesday when they take on the Cowley Tigers inside of the Green House.
