Seward County eSports Spring Week 1 Recap

Marcos Montoya started out the spring season with Super Smash Brothers Ultimate against his opponent from Marshalltown Community College where Montoya went ahead early but couldn't stop the MCC player from making a comeback and taking the overall set as Montoya fell in his first match of the season 0 – 3.

The Saints Madden teams came out hitting hard in their first games of the spring regular season with Landon Davis making his debut against North Arkansas on Wednesday night. Davis defeated his opponent 10-7 in match one and 21 – 7 in match two, taking both wins with a match score of 2 – 0. Akele Powdrill faced off against North Central Missouri College where Powdrill won his first game 35 – 28 against his opponent. The second game went to NCM with a score of 10 – 3 but Powdrill made his come back on the last round and knocked off his opponent 17 – 14, winning with a final score of 2 – 1.

The Saints Overwatch 2 squad squared up against Spoon River College Wednesday in a best of 5 set. SRC got out to an early lead, taking the first round away from the Saints, but it was all Seward County from that point on led by Julienne Salazar, Blake Johnson, Caden McCain, Vanessa Ramirez-Molina, and Eileen Romo who poured it on Spoon River and never let up. They came away with a big victory and a final score of 3 – 1 on the night over Spoon River.

On Thursday, the Saints Call of Duty Gunfight team, made up of Dwayne Moran and Nicolas Benson, grabbed some key wins over Bismarck State College. Moran and Benson came out hot, winning the first set 6 – 2 and didn't let up as they kept their opponents on their toes, winning the next two 6 – 1, and 6 – 1, finishing with a 3 – 0 score.

The Saints Mario Kart teams also debuted on Thursday evening, fielding three competitors in this season of competition in the NJCAAE. Landon Davis faced off against University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in a best of 7 race to the finish line with Davis winning on the night, taking 4 races to UARM's 2. Priscilla Davis had a close race against Connors State where she won the first three races in her best of 7, but unfortunately couldn't keep the CSC player from coming back and winning the next 4 as she lost with a final score of 3 – 4.

The Lakeland Lakers challenged the Saints Rocket League team Friday night, coming on strong right out of the gate. The Saints did their best to match the Lakers energy but couldn't keep up with the demolitions and high-flying antics of LCC as the Seward County Rocket League team fell 3 – 1.

The Rainbow 6 took on SW Wisconsin Tech in a late match Friday night. Blake Johnson, Dwayne Moran, John Epp, Nicolas Benson and Landon Davis Put on a great showing, easily taking down the Chargers 7 – 1 in the first set, and 7 – 2 in the second as they won 2 – 0 overall.
