The Lady Saints defeat Illinois Central in first match at Jefferson College

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeats Illinois Central College in straight sets in their first game of the weekend in Hillsboro, Missouri. The Lady Saints won with the final set scores 25-11, 25-9, and 25-20 to improve to a 20-5 regular-season record. The Lady Saints will face off against No. 7 Missouri State University-West Plains at 4 PM on Friday afternoon.

Seward County started the match with an 11-2 advantage over the Cougars and kept the pedal to the metal. The Lady Saints went on to win the first set 25-11 and to a set lead into the second set. 

In the second set, the Lady Saints jumped out to another big lead with an 11-5 advantage over Illinois Central. Seward County won the second set after a kill by Ana Cambraia to cap off a 14-4 run and a second set victory 25-9.

To start the third set the Lady Saints rotated their starters out of the match and looked to prepare for the rest of the weekend. The Lady Saints and the Cougars found themselves tied at 15 in the third set. Seward County closed out the match with a 25-20 final set victory to sweep Illinois Central. 

Seward County was led by Ana Brangioni with 10 kills and added four service aces. Sarah Cruz added nine kills with four block assists, and Gabriela Badilla had four kills of her own.  

The Lady Saints will face off against No. 7 Missouri State University-West Plains later this afternoon at Jefferson College.
