Seward County sweeps Colby in the Greenhouse

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeats Colby Community College in straight sets, 25-17, 25-21, and 25-19. The No. 12 Lady Saints are now 18-4 on the year and 7-0 in the KJCCC to remain in sole possession of the first place of the Jayhawk. The Lady Saints will travel to Hutchinson Community College this Saturday, with the match set for 2 PM.

Seyun Park led the way for the Lady Saints' offense with 11 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Kavlyn Giacomelli added nine kills of her own, and Ana Cambraia had six kills with four blocks in the match. 

In the first set, the Lady Saints jumped out to an early lead with the serves from Rafaela DaSilva as Seward County led 11-4. With the momentum, the Lady Saints continued to add to their lead and led 16-10, and looked to have found their rhythm. Serves' errors played a part in the team's offensive disgruntles. Seward County would win the first set 25-17 after an attack error by the Trojans.

Aubreigh Haxton delivered the first point of the set for the Lady Saints with a tap-over kill to give the ball back to Logan Dodge to serve. Dodge was able to give Seward County an early 3-0 lead, but Colby would battle back to cut the lead down to two at 9-7. Kavlyn Giacomelli had a monster block at the net to give Seward County a 19-14 lead that forced Colby to use a timeout. The Trojans went on a 5-2 run and cut the Lady Saints' lead down to 21-19 late in the second set. Seward County closed out the set after an attack error by Colby 25-21 to extend their match lead 2-0.

To start the third set, Seward County's Logan Dodge served six straight points as the Lady Saints led 6-0. The Trojans battled back to cut the Lady Saints' lead down to five points, 11-7. After a strong attack by Colby Michell Jerez was able to dig it to set up a Kavlyn Giacomelli kill to give Seward County a 17-9 advantage that forced Colby to use another timeout. After the timeout, the Trojans responded with four straight kills to cut the Lady Saints' lead down to 17-13. Seward County held onto their lead to win the third set 25-19 and the match in straight sets.

The Lady Saints will travel to Hutchinson Community College on Saturday to take on the Blue Dragons at 2 PM CT inside the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
