GAMEDAY IN THE GREENHOUSE: Seward County vs. Butler Volleyball

MATCH PREVIEW:

The 2015 NJCAA Region VI Tournament begins tonight here in Liberal as the 2nd seeded Seward County Lady Saints host the 7th seeded Butler Grizzlies in a one and done playoff match for the second straight season.

Seward had little trouble with Butler during the regular season this year, taking advantage of a battered Grizzly team in a 3-0 win in the Greenhouse in late September before knocking them off 3-1 in the Power Plant three weeks ago.  In the first match between the two, Seward got 20 combined kills from sophomores Alex Wood and Megan Sharratt while Butler managed just 19 kills as a team in a 3-0 Lady Saint victory.  In their second date Seward used 12 blocks and 11 kills each from Wood and Viviane Viana to take the Grizzlies down 3-1.

The Lady Saints had a regular season to remember with 13 conference wins in 2015, their most since the 1998 season.  Seward finished 2nd in the Jayhawk standings behind Hutchinson, two games in front of 3rd place Cloud County.  Seward has been solid on their home floor this season, going 10-1 overall with their only loss coming in a dramatic five setter with the Dragons.

It has been a rough year for the Grizzlies in 2015 as they finished the regular season 8-28 overall and in 7th place in the Jayhawk West standings at 4-12.  Butler has played better of late though, winning three of their last six matches and has the confidence of having upset Seward in this same spot just one year ago.
