GAMEDAY IN THE GREENHOUSE: Seward County vs. Barton Volleyball

MATCH PREVIEW:

The 2015 regular season wraps up tonight in the Greenhouse as the Seward County Lady Saints host the Barton Lady Cougars in a Region VI Tournament tuneup for both sides.  It is both sophomore night and Dig Pink Night in the Greenhouse tonight as we raise awareness for breast cancer as well as honor our three Lady Saint sophomores playing their final Jayhawk West Game in Liberal tonight.

Tonight is the second time that Seward and Barton have hooked up this season after the Lady Saints won a 3-0 contest in Great Bend in late September.  Megan Sharratt, Viviane Viana, and Alex Wood each had 7 kills in the win for Seward while the Lady Saints racked up 9 blocks as a team in the three setter.  Barton struggled offensively, hitting .022 with 23 hitting errors in the loss.

Seward has wrapped up 2nd place in the Jayhawk West standings going into the final night of competition with a 12-3 mark in conference action.  The 12 wins mark the Lady Saints most victories in a conference season since the 1998 season under Hall of Fame Head Coach Pat Stangle.  Seward continues to be led by sophomore Alex Wood who leads the Jayhawk West and ranks 9th nationally with 429 kills on the year.

It hasn't been a banner year for Barton this season, but the Cougars have begun to play some of their best volleyball of the season of late.  Barton has won 3 of their last 5 including an exciting five set win over Pratt last Wednesday at home.  The Cougars will be slotted into 6th place in the league standings and will take on Cloud County in the first round of the Region VI Tournament next week.
