Seward Sweeps Jayhawk Awards For Second Straight Week

Seward County sophomores Carolina Gasparini and Kari Anderson are turning it on at the right time of the season and the two Lady Saints were once again rewarded by the Jayhawk Conference on Wednesday as for the second straight week the two were named the Jayhawk West Player and Defensive Player of the Week in a league release.

Gasparini put together a monster week for Seward County in five matches, averaging 3.20 kills and 4.65 digs per set while recording 4 double-doubles in 5 matches.  Wednesday against Butler she willed the Lady Saints to a thrilling five set win, registering 17 kills and 21 digs for the Lady Saints.  Friday in Hillsborough, Missouri, she put together another big match, this time against #12 Indian Hills, going for 14 kills and 25 digs in a Seward defeat.  Saturday she posted two more double-doubles, collecting 15 kills and 19 digs against #3 Illinois Central and wrapped up the week with 10 kills and 18 digs against Jefferson.

Anderson continues to climb up the Lady Saints record books and with 122 digs on the week for Seward this week, she did that yet again, moving into 2nd place on the school's all-time single season digs list with 711 and creeping into 3rd place in career digs with 1,230.  Wednesday on the road at Butler she led Seward with 23 digs in a five set win over the Grizzlies in El Dorado.  Friday against a pair of NJCAA top 20 teams she combined for 42 digs in two Seward matches.  Saturday she upped her game even more, notching a career high 39 digs in Seward's four set loss to Jefferson College.

The Seward duo will lead the Lady Saints into action for the final time during the 2014 regular season on Thursday in the Greenhouse when Seward takes on Cloud County at 6:30 on sophomore night in Liberal.
