Region VI Playoffs in the Greenhouse Tonight

MATCH PREVIEW: It's playoff time in the Greenhouse tonight as the Seward County Lady Saints host the Garden City Lady Broncbusters in the 1st round of the 2013 Region VI Tournament.  Seward comes into the match as the #3 seed in the tournament while Garden City enters as the #6 seed.  In earlier tournament matches, all three higher seeded teams advanced to the Region VI Final Four with three set victories.  The winner of tonight's match will take on Colby in the next round Sunday at 2:00 in Hutchinson.  

         Seward swept both regular season matches between these two this season.  In their first meeting the Lady Saints defended their home court here in the Greenhouse with a 3-0 win thanks in large part to Carolina Gasparini and Morgan Riley who finished the match with 11 kills and 0 errors.  The Busters struggled in the loss, hitting -.106 as a team and no Garden City hitters finished the match hitting better than .111.  Seward also took care of business of the Busters in Garden City, another 3-0 win withGasparini and Riley leading the attack once again.  Gasparini finished with 15 kills and 14 digs while Riley had 9 kills on 15 chances without an error. 

The Lady Saints will look to come out of the gates strong tonight after playing a light schedule over the past couple of weeks.  Seward has not beaten an NJCAA opponent in 12 days, playing just three matches in that span.  If they were to advance, the Lady Saints would take on a Colby team whom they have given a run for their money this season, taking the Lady Trojans to five sets in both meetings. 

Garden City has had a week to prepare for tonight's match with their last contest coming right here in the Greenhouse when they lost to Otero in five sets last Tuesday.  The Busters will look to get their offense rolling, an offense that has managed just 7.95 kills per set this season and currently ranks 81st in the NJCAA in that category.
