6th place for Lady Saints with four semifinal matches scheduled for day four of national tournament
TYLER, Texas - The Lady Saints qualified for four semifinal matches during day three of competition at the 2023 NJCAA Women's Tennis National Championship. Camille Belberka, Carol Mora, Ana Isabela Serrano and Jaena Morais will all play on day four of competition with matches scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT.
Day three started with three Lady Saints all playing in a singles match at 8 a.m. CT. Camille Belberka, Carol Mora and Ana Isabela Serrano all squared off against their oppenents early in the morning, but the Lady Saints only came out victorious on 2 of the 3 matches. Belberka defeated Isabela Mercante of St. Petersburg College 7-6, 6-1 to move onto the semifinals. Mora defeated Jou Chen Chen of ABAC in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 to get to the semifinals. Unfortunately, Ana Isabela Serrano dropped her singles match to Ita Habekovic of Hillsborough Community College in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Serrano has been eliminated from singles competition.
After the 8 a.m. matches, Camila Corrales competed against St. Petersburg College's Kyoka Ueno and came up short losing in straight sets. Corrales has been eliminated from singles competition at the national tournament. Next up was Jaena Morais who easily took care of business in the back draw quarterfinals defeating Laysha Gomez of Mesa Community College 8-0.
Doubles competition was up next and for Camille Belberka and Carol Mora there match concluded after one set because their opponents from St. Petersburg College had to retire due to an injury. Jaena Morais and Ana Isabela Serrano did not have as easy of an outing and were quickly down one set after the pairing of Kanna Kobayakawa and Alessia Ciampi from St. Petersburg College attacked early. However, the Lady Saints' pairing quickly turned things around and won the match in three sets 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
