Multiple Lady Saints move to the second round of competition after start of 2023 NJCAA National Championship
TYLER, Texas - Three of the five Lady Saint women's tennis student-athletes competed on day one of the 2023 NJCAA Women's Tennis National Championship. Carol Mora and Camila Corrales each had a first-round bye as they will play their first matches tomorrow while Camille Belberka and Ana Isabela Serrano each won their match in straight sets with Jaena Morais going three sets, dropping the deciding set.
First on the court was Camille Belberka as she faced Saryn Seeley of Sauk Valley Community College. Belberka came out firing and was able to close out the match quick winning each set 6-0 as she advanced to the second round of the #1 Flight of the tournament. Next up was Ana Isabela Serrano, and she was able start with the same intensity as Camille Belberka. Serrano jumped out early against Emma Semery of Iowa Central Community College and finished the match in straight sets without giving up a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Jaena Morais was the last Lady Saint to compete on the day as she faced off against Hayden Hensarling from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Morais and Hensarling battled it out in the first set early on, but Morais pulled away late to take the first set 6-3. The next two sets were back and forth battles as Hensarling was able to get the upperhand in each, winning the match.
All of the Lady Saints will be in competition on Day Two as the second round of all singles and doubles competitions will resume at 8 a.m. CT. Full listing of the Lady Saints matches can be seen below:
