Seward County remains No. 6 and receives national rankings

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College remains at No. 6 in the latest Oracle and ITA NJCAA National Rankings. The Saints have found success as of late in the season and ended the regular season with an 8-7 record. Their last win was over Barton Community College who remained ahead of Seward at No. 4 in the Nation. As the Saints look to the National Tournament in Mesa Arizona on April 30th they are ready for any opponent.

Seward County also received National recognition for individual athletes in singles and all three of their double teams receiving a national ranking. 

The Saints' top singles spot belonged to Justine Lespes and she will enter post-season play at No. 2 in the nation only behind Tyler Junior College's Destinee Martins who Lespes lost to in a third set. Lespes has a 10-2 match record and will look to lead Seward County at Nationals. Chiara Matteodo has rotated from two to three throughout the season and has been ranked No. 14 in the country. Lucia Popluharova will enter post-season plat ranked No. 23 in the nation with a 4-9 match record. Maria Garcia received No. 30th in the Nation with her performances this year at the four or five spots for Seward County.

All three of the Saints doubles teams received National rankings to close out the regular season. Seward County's top doubles team Justine Lespes and Chiara Matteodo has been ranked the No. 8th team in the nation. Lucia Popluharova and Maria Garcia will be ranked No. 15th in the nation with a 6-5 match record. Seward County's third doubles team with Saskia Vogelzang and Lorena Torrico receives the final spot in the top 25.

Seward County will hit the road next week for the national tournament and will have enter as a six seed in the nation but the title is up for grabs.
