The Saints split with the Trojans on Saturday

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College splits against Colby Community College with a 3-0 loss in game one followed by a 4-1 victory in game two. The Saints' Madeline Pack hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Seward County the 4-1 victory over the Trojans in extra innings. Seward County improves to 17-7 on the season and 8-2 in conference play.

GAME 1

In the bottom of the first inning, Beth Denney connected on a double but the Saints were unable to score her from second base. Colby scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead 2-0 over Seward County. 

The Saints were unable to get their offense started as they went scoreless throughout the contest. The Trojans added one more run in the top of the fifth inning to go on and win 3-0.

Ireland Caro was in the circle as the right-hander allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Macy Cesa-Spearman led Seward County with two hits in four at-bats.

The Saints fell to 16-7 on the season and 7-2 in conference play.

GAME 2

In the second inning, Colby scored first with one run as they led 1-0. Both teams went scoreless from the second inning on as the Saints still trailed 1-0 in the sixth inning.  

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Gabrielle Sanchez tied the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly that scored Beth Denney from third base.

Pack connected on a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Seward County the victory 4-1.

Ellie Stember was the winning pitcher for the Saints as she went eight innings, allowing eight hits and one run while striking out one and walking zero.

The Saints had seven hits with Stember, Beth Denney, and Pack each collecting two hits to lead Seward County.

Seward County improved to 17-7 on the season and 8-2 in conference play. The Saints will be back in action Monday, March 28th as they take on Seminole State College at 2 PM CT.
