The Saints are tied for 1st in the KJCCC after a sweep over the Mavericks

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College sweeps Northwest Kansas Technical College with a game one victory 11-1, and a game two win 12-2. The Saints are now tied for first place in the KJCCC with a 5-1 record and a 14-6 season record. Seward County had a combined no-hitter in game one and only allowed three runs in the two games. 

GAME 1

Seward County started the scoring in the second inning with Ashley Low able to cross the plate after a Mavericks error. Tatum Winters hit an RBI triple to score Shayana Stopp from second base as the Saints led 2-0.

Ellie Stember added to the lead with an RBI single that scored Winters from third base and Gabrielle Sanchez hit a double that scored Stember to lead 5-0. Beth Denney followed up with a two-run home run that gave the Saints the 7-0 advantage.

In the top of the third inning, the Mavericks would score their only run of the game as the Saints walked a batter that ended up stealing second, third, and eventually home base. This was the only run of the game for Northwest Kansas as they remained hitless.

Macy Spearman hit an RBI single in the third inning to score Milo Lancaster from third base. Sanchez hit a triple that scored Winters and Spearman to give the Saints a 10-1 advantage. 

In the bottom of the fourth Spearman hit an RBI single to add to Seward County's lead 11-1 as Lancaster scored from second base. 

Ireland Caro led the Seward County to the win as she gave up zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out two. Ashanti Thompson came in and threw for three innings out of the bullpen allowing zero hits, and one run. A combined no-hitter for the Saints from the circle in game one.

Seward County improved to 13-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. 

GAME 2

Northwest Kansas started game two with a run in the top of the first inning. Maddie Pack started the scoring for the Saints with an RBI single that scored Macy Cesa-Spearman from third. Ashley Low followed up with an RBI single of their own to score Sanchez as Seward County took the lead 2-1. 

The Mavericks tied the game at two-all in the top of the second inning. The Saints responded with an RBI double by Sanchez and a three-run home run by Beth Denny as the Saints led 6-2.

Seward County started with Spearman scoring off of an error, and a single by Sanchez scored Stember. Beth Denny continued the hitting streak with an RBI double that scored Sanchez from first base, and Denny scored next after a single by Pack. Low later scored Pack from third and Adams connected on a single that scored Low from second. With six runs in the third, the Saints led 12-2.

Both teams remained scoreless for the fourth and fifth as Seward county claimed the victory on an eight-run mercy rule, 12-2.

Molly Adams received the win as she surrendered two runs on four hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero. Elle Weber threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Saints are now tied for first in the KJCCC with a 5-1 overall record and improve to 14-6 on the year. Seward County will travel to Garden City on Saturday with games scheduled for 1 PM and 3 PM CT.
