The Saints split with Northeastern JC in their double header

LIBERAL, Kans. - Seward County Community College splits its two-game doubleheader with Northeastern Junior College on Monday, February 14th. The Saints won the first game 20-15 after trailing 11-2 and lost game two 4-0 to the Plainswomen. Seward County is now 3-3 on the season. 

GAME 1

Northeastern jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first but Seward County responded in the bottom of the inning after a Tatum Winters three-run homerun. The Plainswomen rallied for four runs in the second and added three more runs in the top of the third to lead 11-3. Seward County brought the bats in the bottom of the third inning to score six runs on six singles. Macy Cesa-Spearman, Ellie Stember, Shayanna Stopp, Molly Adams, and Vivian Gabehart all connected for singles in the inning.

The Saints got within one run, 11-10 in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single scored Stember from third base. Northeastern added two more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 13-10 lead. The Saints had four singles in the bottom of the fifth and scored five runs to take the lead 15-13 over the Lopes. Seward County added five more runs in the sixth inning to lead 20-13 and Lamar scored two runs in the seventh to give Seward County the victory 20-15.

Molly Adams was the winning pitcher for the Saints as she allowed eight hits and eight runs over five innings, striking out four. Ireland Caro threw two innings in relief for Seward County.

With the victory, the Saints improved to 3-2 on the season. 

GAME 2

In the final game of the day on Monday, February 14th, the Saints and the Plainswomen went scoreless throughout the first four innings. Northeastern went on to score three runs in the top of the fifth inning to break the tie and added one more run in the sixth inning to lead 4-0. 

Seward County was unable to score against Northeastern in game two and went on to lose 4-0 in the final game of the day. The Saints fell to 3-3 on the season. Ellie Stember took the loss for Saints as she went four and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits and walking one.

Seward County is on the road at Frank Phillips College on Wednesday, February 16th as they look to get back into the winning column.
