Lady Saints Split With Lamar

Lady Saints Split With Lamar

The Seward County Lady Saints earned a non-conference split with the Lamar Runnin' Lopes Wednesday afternoon at Merchants Park in Lamar, winning game one of the twinbill 8-2 before falling 8-4 in game two to move to 5-13 on the year.

Seward controlled game one from the start as Madelina Cordova lifted a two run home run in the 2nd inning, the second of her Lady Saints career to put the gals in green on top early 2-0.

The Lady Saints added to their lead in the 3rd on an RBI single from Callie Silvers-Harnly to make it 3-0 and tacked on another in the 4th to make it  4-0 game.

Lamar got a pair of runs back in the 4th, but that is all that the Lopes would get in this one against Seward starter Kelly Kearney who blanked Lamar in the final three frames while the Lady Saints added four insurance runs late to win it 8-2.

Seward pounded out 14 hits in the win, getting a hit from eight of nine starters in the contest.  Hannah Clark led the way, going 2 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBI's while Cordova finished with a pair of hits including the home run and 2 RBI's at the bottom of the order.  Kearney picked up her fourth win of the season, going the distance and allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5.

SEWARD COUNTY/LAMAR GAME ONE BOX SCORE

Game two would be the opposite story for the Lady Saints as it was Lamar jumping out to an early 3-1 lead after two innings of play before blowing the game open in the middle innings with five runs in the 4th and 5th innings to make it an 8-1 game.

Seward tried to make a late comeback, starting with a run in the 6th and two more in the 7th, but it was too little too late as the Lopes closed them out with an 8-4 victory to split the double header.

The Lady Saints had 11 hits in the game, getting a 4 for 4 effort from Brittany Corrales and  a pair of knocks from Venice Batts in the loss.  Jaidyn Mawhinney was collared with the loss, allowing 12 hits and 8 runs in just 4 1/3 innings to fall to 1-6 on the year.

SEWARD COUNTY/LAMAR GAME TWO BOX SCORE

Seward moves to 5-13 on the year with the split while Lamar goes to 4-9.

The Lady Saints will open Jayhawk West Conference play on Saturday when they host Dodge City at Lady Saints Field in Liberal starting at 2:00.
