The Saints fall shot 76-71 on Sophomore night to the Blue Dragons

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College came up short against Hutchinson Community College 76-71 on a sophomore night in the Greenhouse. The Saints honored Tre Stafford, Wilson Dubinsky, Jaylin Henderson, and Mario Whitley before tip-off. Seward County fell to 13-15 on the year and 9-14 in the KJCCC. 

Mario Whitley led the Saints with 22 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Dubinsky went 4-8 from three-point range and had 16 points, and Jaylin Henderson provided nine of his own. 

To start the game, Seward County trailed 10-4 after a Hutchinson three, but the Saints answered with a 5-0 run to trail 10-9. With eight minutes left, the Saints trailed the Blue Dragons 23-14 after Hutchinson went on a 9-2 run. Seward County faced its most significant deficit of the first half, 33-18, at the under-five-minute mark. At halftime, the Saints trailed 41-29 after the Blue Dragons made a layup as the buzzer sounded.

At the fifteen-minute mark in the second half, the Saints cut the deficit to single digits 47-39 after a Whitley made jumper. Blessin Kimble cleaned up his miss to make it a two-point game, 49-47. Seward County took the lead for the first time in the contest after Whitley made a mid-range jumper with eight minutes left. Dubinsky gave Seward County their largest lead of the game, 57-53, after one of his four threes. 

After Hutchinson regained the lead 61-58, Seward County responded with a Henderson jump shot to tie the game at 61-61. The Blue Dragons went on a 9-3 run to take a 70-64 lead with one minute left in the contest. The Saints were able to get some late threes to fall but fell short 76-71. 

The Saints will finish their regular season at No. 19 Coffeyville on Saturday, February 25th, at 4 p.m. CT.
