Seward County falls short 85-76 against Pratt

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College falls to Pratt Community College 85-76 in the Greenhouse on Wednesday night. The Saints fall 10-9 on the year and are now 6-7 in the KJCCC. Seward County trailed 66-65 with eight minutes left, and Pratt went on a 13-2 run in five minutes to claim the victory. Seward County will look to battle back on the road at No. 18 Butler Community College this Saturday at 4 p.m. CT. 

Wilson Dubinsky led the Saints with 21 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Blessin Kimble had 11 points, Jimmy Sorunke provided 10, and Jaden Martin also had 10 points in the contest. 

The Beavers jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage in the first two minutes of action over the Saints. Seward County responded with a 6-0 run to take an early 6-5 lead over Pratt. Both teams continued to exchange runs as the Beavers took an early lead of 29-14 over the Saints after a 14-5 run. After a Sorunke basket, the Saints cut the lead down to nine points, 31-22, and looked to continue the momentum. 

At the under-five-minute media timeout, Seward County trailed 39-35 and continued to fight back late in the first half. A Dubinsky three cut the lead down to one point, 45-44with 1:16 left before halftime. Jaden Martin connected on a layup in the final seconds of the first half as Seward County went into the breakdown 49-46 to Pratt. 

Seward County came out in the second half and took their first lead of the game since 6-5 with a 50-49 advantage. A Jaylin Henderson three gave the Saints a 59-55 advantage with 12 minutes left in the game. Seward county continued to hold on to the lead until the eight-minute mark as Pratt went ahead 66-65. 

Pratt went on a 13-2 run, and with 3:30 left in the second half, Seward County faced a 79-67 deficit. The Saints continued to fight back, but the Beavers controlled the clock in the final three minutes to limit any final comeback for Seward County. Seward County fell 85-76 to Pratt at home in the Greenhouse.

The Saints will look to bounce back this Saturday against the No. 18 Grizzlies from Butler at 4 p.m. CT.
