Seward County falls at Independence 67-60

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - Seward County Community College falls at Independence Community College 67-60 on Thursday, February 3th. The Saints trailed by 22 points 44-22 with sixteen minutes left in the second half and closed out the game with a 12-4 but came up short. Seward County is now 9-15 on the season and 6-12 in conference action. The Saints will host Garden City Community College on Saturday, February 5th at 8 PM in the Greenhouse. 

Both teams struggled offensively to start the game and halfway through the first half the Saints took a 10-6 lead after a layup by Jaylin Henderson. The Pirates took the lead 13-12 after a free throw and never gave it back. Independence closed out the first half with a 12-2 run to take a 35-20 advantage at halftime. 

The Pirates started the second half with a 9-2 run to claim their largest lead of the game 44-22 over the Saints. A floater by Wilson Dubinsky cut Independence's lead down to 51-38 with ten minutes left in the contest. In the final five minutes, the Saints trailed 60-48 and kept the pressure on the Pirates with a full-court press.

Seward County stormed back to cut the lead down to five points, 63-58 in the final minute of action after a Taye Donald steal and a score. The Pirates closed out the contest from the free-throw line as the Saints fell 67-60 on Thursday evening. 

The Saints were led by Branton "Bee" McCrary with 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Taye Donald and Wilson Dubinsky each added 12 points of their own, and Harvin Ibarguen had nine points with 10 rebounds.

This Saturday the Saints will host the Broncbusters at 8 PM with the gameday sponsor Conestoga and tickets are available at the Brickhouse BBQ.
