Saints fall at No. 6 Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - Seward County Community College men's basketball program fell on the road against No. 6 Coffeyville Community College 71-62. With 5:10 remaining the Saints led 59-55 and they fell into an offensive drought to close the game. The Ravens put together a 16-3 run to close the game and the three points for the Saints came from the free-throw line. 

In the first half, Seward County began the game with a 10-2 advantage as they were able to connect on open three-pointers and created turnovers early. Coffeyville quickly responded and went on a 10-3 run of their own to get back within one, 13-12. After being tied at 23all with six minutes left in the half the saints only connected on one field goal before the break and the Ravens went on a 9-2 run to take a 32-25 lead into the locker rooms.

To begin the second half the Saints responded with a 16-7 run to regain the lead 41-39 with a three by Samuel Henderson. At the eight-minute mark, the Saints took their largest lead of the game with a 54-47 advantage against the Ravens. In the final minutes, Coffeyville established their lead and kept the Saints off the boards to secure a final possession to seal the win. 

Seward was led by Stephen Takyi with 17 points, four rebounds but was limited in playtime due to foul trouble. Saints' other top scorers were Samuel Henderson with 16 points and Davonte Jennings had 9 points. 

Coffeyville was led by Tylor Perry with 22 points and six rebounds. Ravens' other top scorers were Blaise Keita with 20 points and Jalen Smith with 10 points.

Seward County will be back in action on Wednesday (February 10th, 2021) at Neosho Community College at 8 pm.
