No. 24 Saints defeat Midland College on the road

MIDLAND, Texas – The No. 24 Seward County Community College men's basketball team defeated Midland College, 59-48, on Friday at the Chap Shootout to improve to 4-0.

In their first true road game of the season, the Saints opened the game struggling from the field early, but found their offense late and ended the half with a 15-3 run to hold a 26-17 advantage heading into the locker rooms.

The Chaparrals started the second half by storming out to a 16-4 run to grab a 33-30 lead, but this would be the final time that the Saints trailed in this game. Kyle Cardaci tied it up for Seward at 33 when he knocked down a three-point shot with 12:51 left in the game. This started a 15-1 run which saw Seward take a 45-34 lead over Midland and separate the teams for the final time.

Keeping the Chaparrals at arm's length, the Saints' defense kept them to just 32 percent shooting from the field in the game.

The Saints were led by Greg Johnson with 12 points, and Nika Metskhvarishvili with 11 points.

Seward finishes up the Chap Shootout with a contest against Odessa College at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
