57 Seward Athletes Named to AD Honor Roll

It was another banner year in the classroom for Seward County student-athletes in 2013-2014 and 57 of those Saints and Lady Saints were rewarded on Tuesday as Athletics Director Galen McSpadden announced the Spring AD Honor Roll.
Ronzai Saurombe Named ITA Rookie of the Year

The banner season for Seward County freshmen continued this week as Saints tennis player Ronzai Saurombe was awarded the 2014 ITA Rookie of the Year at the NJCAA National Tournament banquet in Plano, Texas.
Saints Miss National Tournament For First Time Since '09

A shorthanded Seward County bunch gave it their best effort at the Region VI Tournament in Wichita Saturday, but with just three players playing, it was too much to overcome as they fell four points short of their fifth straight trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.
Three Saints to Play For Titles Saturday

Despite the fact that three of the four Saints tennis players on the roster for the Region VI Tournament in Wichita this weekend will be playing for championships on Saturday at the event, Seward’s hopes for their 7th straight team bid to the NJCAA National Tournament are about as slim as the Cubs chances to break their historical streak in 2014.

An undermanned Seward County Saints Tennis team will look to make some noise this weekend at the Region VI Tournament in Wichita. Seward will most likely need to win two of the brackets and possibly more if they are to qualify as one of three teams from the region for their 8th straight NJCAA National Tournament.
Molly Lentini Named Assistant Coach for Saints Tennis

The top 20 ranked Seward County Saints and Lady Saints Tennis teams got even stronger this week and it wasn’t with the addition of a player, it was with the addition of a coach. Monday, Seward County Tennis Head Coach Jerry Thor officially introduced Molly Lentini as his new Assistant Coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.

The #20 Seward County Saints are in a bit of a rut right now and they picked the wrong time in the season for it. The Saints dropped their third straight match and fifth in their last six outings Tuesday in Wichita as Region VI rival Johnson County took it to the guys in green 7-2 in a match that actually only had four matches played.

In a much anticipated Jayhawk Conference rivalry matchup with the Cowley Tigers Monday afternoon in Wichita, the Seward County Saints were only able to collect two points in a lopsided 7-2 loss to the their Region VI rivals.
Saints Play Well But Forfeits Costly in Trojan Classic

The matches that are played on the court haven’t been the problem for the 20th ranked Seward County Saints this season; it has been the ones that haven’t that have hurt the guys in green. In the Seminole State Classic this weekend in Oklahoma City, Seward was 12-6 in matches played, but it was the 9 points that went unplayed that cost them, as the Saints lost a pair of close matches to Collin County and Jacksonville wrapped around a win over Jayhawk rival Barton to finish the weekend 1-2.
Saints Just Miss Upset Bid Against #4 Seminole

The #20 Seward County Saints just missed an upset of #4 Seminole State Thursday afternoon in Oklahoma City, winning all four singles matches played, but losing both doubles battles and forfeiting the other three spots in a 5-4 loss to the Trojans to fall to 1-3 on the year.

The 20th ranked Seward County Saints got on the board in the win column Saturday afternoon in Hesston, Kansas as they knocked off the homestanding Larks 5-4 for their first win of 2014.
9th Ranked Seward Upended by Cougars

The slow start to the 9th ranked Seward County Saints season continued on Saturday as following a 5-4 loss to unranked Newman University on Wednesday, the Saints were shocked by another unranked team in the Barton Cougars 6-3 in Great Bend to fall to 0-2 on the year.
Saints Drop Close Match to Open 2014

The good news is, the four Seward County Saints that were on the court Wednesday afternoon at Newman University in Wichita finished 4-2 in six matches. The bad news is, the Saints started the match down 3-0 because of three forfeits and therefore fell 5-4 to the Jets in their opening match of the 2014 season.
Seward Tennis Schedule Changes

The Seward County tennis schedule will be moved around for this week. The Saints and Lady Saints were originally scheduled to play Barton in Great Bend tomorrow, that match has been moved to Saturday with a 12:00 start. Replacing tomorrow’s Barton match will be a trip to Newman University for the teams. The Saints and Jets will get underway at 2:00 in Wichita Wednesday. Seward’s originally scheduled match with Friends University on Saturday has been cancelled. Wednesday, March 12 @ Newman Saturday, March 15 @ Barton
