Saints get to play at home for first round of Region VI Tournament
LIBERAL, Kan. - The Saints baseball program finished their season last week with an overall record of 31-24 with a 20-12 record in the conference. After having the bye this week, the Saints received the 7th overall seed of the Region VI Tournament and come Wednesday afternoon, will begin play in the postseason against Neosho County.
The Saints are matched up against 10th overall seed Neosho County who finished 5th on the East side of the conference. The two teams will square off in a best-of-three series starting Wednesday, May 10th at 2 p.m. CT with game two on Thursday at the same time. The final game (if necessary) of the series will be Friday, May 11th at 2 p.m. All games will take place in Liberal, KS at Brent Gould Field.
The Saint's first postseason opponent, Neosho County, finished the year with a 33-22 overall record going 16-16 in the KJCCC. Neosho County ranks near the middle of the pack in most conference offensive statistical standings but ranks near the top in runs allowed and ERA as a pitching staff. Similar to the Saints, Neosho has a #1 pitcher in Dax Sharp, who has a 9-2 overall record with 13 starts and an ERA under four. At the plate, catcher Keegan McDonald is their best hitter for average sitting just below .400. Kam Koester leads Neosho with 11 home runs, while Brooks Miller leads the team with 49 RBIs.
The Saints will look to continue their dominance offensively and on the mound. We will see Wednesday how well the bats and arms have held up after what will be a 10-day layoff come the time of the first pitch.
The Saints will be offering a free cookout for Saints fans during Game 1. Behind the 3rd base dugout, the Saint’s administration will be grilling burgers and hotdogs. Make sure you either wear some Saints gear or yell, “Go, Saints!”. The concession stand will also be open with popcorn, nachos, and candy for purchase.
