The Saints defeat Frank Phillips 9-8 with one run in the 9th inning

BORGER, Tex. - Seward County defeats Frank Phillips College 9-8 on Tuesday afternoon with one run in the top of the ninth to secure the victory. Noah Baker started the top of the ninth inning with a double and was able to score off of an error by the Plainsmen to put Seward county ahead 9-8. The Saints are now 6-14 on the season and will start conference play this weekend at Dodge City. 

Frank Phillips scored four runs in the second inning but Seward County responded in the top of the third. Javier Gomez started off the third inning with a double and later Ranse Radtke hit him in with a single. The Plainsmen scored one more run in the bottom of the third as the Saints trailed 5-1.

Jase Schneider started the top of the fifth with a single and scored off of a passed ball. Tristan Curless hit an RBI single to center field that scored Radke as the Saints trailed 5-3 in the fifth inning. Seward County would take the lead in the top of the sixth with three runs scored to lead 6-5. Radke hit a two-run RBI double in the fifth and later would score on a wild pitch. 

In the seventh inning, the Plainsmen scored two runs to regain the lead 7-6 over the Saints. Seward County did not trail for long as Schneider scored off of a wild pitch and Radtke came around to score after an error by the Plainsmen. The Saints held an 8-7 lead but Frank Phillips scored off of a Saints error to tie the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning. 

Noah Baker started off the top of the ninth inning with a double as the Saints had the winning run on base. Baker would later score off of an error by the Plainsmen to give Seward County the lead 9-8. 

Zach Walker picked up the win for the Saints as he allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, and struck out two. Chance Helton, Colby Rohr, and Josh Eichstadt all came out of the bullpen and helped the Saints to the victory.

Seward County improved to 6-14 on the year and will have a weekend series against Dodge City to start conference play.
