Saints Cruise Past Bethel in Home Opener

Saints Cruise Past Bethel in Home Opener

Giving their normal starting lineup a rest in their 2017 home opener Saturday afternoon at Blue Bonnet Park in Liberal, the #5 Seward County Saints still rolled past the visiting Bethel Threshers in sweeping fashion 9-0 to remain unbeaten this season at 6-0.

The dual started with doubles play where Seward set the tone early on.  Renato Santos and Ben Finet took the court at #1 for the Saints, easily winning the point there with an 8-2 victory over Gabe Johnson and Ryan Lacombe.  Lautaro Mondardo and Dane Mechali coasted to an 8-1 win at #2 for Seward to give the Saints a 2-0 lead and Baptiste Dutrieve and Felipe Sarpa wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at #3.

As dominate as Seward was in doubles play, they were even more efficient in singles.  Finet lined up with Johnson at #1 and had no trouble, earning the Saints a point with a 6-2, 6-0 victory to make it 4-0.  Freire had an even easier time at #2, blowing Lacombe off the court with a 6-1, 6-0 win to seal the match for the Saints.  Seward's roll continued in the middle of the lineup as Mechali took a 6-0, 6-3 decision at #3 and Monardo earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at #4 to make it 7-0.   Dutrieve kept Seward perfect with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #5 and Sarpa finished off the match sweep for Seward with a double goose egg, 6-0, 6-0 at #6 to give the Saints a 9-0 win.

Seward improves to 6-0 on the year with the win and have won 47 of the 53 points played in those six matches this year.

The Saints will return to the court next weekend in Midlothian, Texas where they will take on a stacked field including #1 Tyler on Friday.
