Above the Net With... Alex Wood

Our sixth Above the Net feature, highlighting and written by a Lady Saints Volleyball player is from Alex Wood.  Wood is a 5'10 sophomore outside hitter from Junction City, Kansas.  She currently leads the Jayhawk Conference in kills on the season and ranks 9th nationally in the category.  She has entitled her entry "Time is Running Out".

Hey Lady Saints fans! It's so great to be back here in Liberal for another year. I had a great time last year and so far this year has already surpassed every expectation! I was a little nervous coming into this year with eight freshmen and only three sophomores (including myself!), but these girls are amazing. They all have so much talent and always work their hardest, it's so great being on the court with them. They have definitely made this season one to remember, with our eleven game win streak and a second place finish in conference. They have given me a lot of memories to cherish as my final season here at Seward County is coming to an end.

With our season winding down now it really gets me thinking on all the great times I have had playing here, on and off the court. Whether it was taking selfies with Coach Lu (Bert Luallen) last year when we stopped at a gas station or this year's late night talks with Coach B (Thais Baziquetto-Allen). Laughing so hard we cried while #1 Amanda Pereira fell down a hill in Missouri or when #6 Jade Piper cracked a joke, and even me, never being able to carry the stats basket without running into something and giving myself a bruise. This year has been one for the books!

It's definitely going to be an emotional couple of weeks with sophomore night tonight, our last home game next Tuesday, and my last Region VI Tournament as a Lady Saint right around the corner. Be prepared for some tears tonight as I play my last regular season conference game with my fellow sophomores and best friends #12 Megan Sharratt and #15 Lindsey Schwab. We may not have known each other long, but they are two of the best friends I have ever had and I have loved every day I've been able to play with them.

However, as our last games are upon us, it's not only my teammates that I will miss but all you amazing fans who come out to support us every chance you get. I am blessed to be a part of such an amazing and supportive community here in Liberal, and can't thank you all enough for making this town my home away from home. I hope to see everyone cheering loud tonight as we take on Barton!

Let's finish this thing right!
