Saints Drop Game One in Weekend Trip to Kansas City

Liberal, Kansas – Seward County kicked off their weekend trip in Kansas City with a Jayhawk matchup with the KCK Blue Devils on Saturday where the Saints were able to control their foes through the first half but gave up two goals to the Blue Devils in the second in a 2-0 finish with Seward County starting their weekend in the losing column.

Throughout the first 45:00 minutes of action it was an exchange of possessions between both sides with both the Saints and Blue Devils getting shots off to try and put points on the scoreboard. Bruno Mestres flew through the air like superman for a pair of saves to keep KCK scoreless while the back line for SCCC knocked the ball away to prevent additional shots from the Blue Devils heading into the halftime break.

The second half started off the same as the previous half had gone with the two teams locked in a defensive battle with neither side able to slip past the opposing defense. It was KCK however who found themselves on the board first as a precision pass found a wide-open player in white for a shot on goal that squeaked into the bottom left corner of the goal and just over the outreached fingertips of Mestres for a 1-0 Blue Devil lead. Within minutes of scoring their first goal, KCK responded with their second moments after kicking off again as they made a pair of simple passes up field to go one on one with Mestres who manned the goal with the Blue Devils nailing in their second goal for a 2-0 lead with fifteen left on the clock. Despite making their way down field with offensive drives of their own, the Saints were unable to get a goal of their own with Seward County falling 2-0 on the night against Kansas City Kansas to start their weekend trip on a sour note.

The Saints now fall to 4-4-3 on the 2024 campaign with a conference record of 1-3-3 in Jayhawk Conference action. They will wrap up their weekend trip in Lee's Summit, Missouri tomorrow when they face Metropolitan in a 5:00 PM matchup with hopes of returning home in the win column.
