Seward County over comes a 16 point deficit to win 62-56 over Cloud County

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College's men's basketball team comes back from 16 down to defeat Cloud County 62-56 on Wednesday night. The Saints trailed 43-27 with 19:47 left in the contest but came back to take the lead with a 22-5 run 49-48. Seward County was able to extend their lead late in the second half from the free-throw line to close out the game. Seward County will compete against Independence Community College on December 4th at 8 PM. 

In the first half, Cloud County took the lead 10-9 and the Thunderbirds did not give up the lead for the remainder of the half. The Saints fell behind by ten points 24-14 with 7:51 left on the clock in the first half. Ahamadou Sillah connected on a corner three to get the Saints back within eight points as they trailed 31-23. Cloud County closed out the first half with a buzzer-beater three to take a 41-27 lead into the break.

Cloud County started the second half with a layup to give the Thunderbirds their largest lead of the game 43-27. Down 14 points Malachi McReed gave life back to the gym after a dunk cut the lead down but the Saints trailed 32-44. With 11:54 remaining the Saints trailed 48-33 and started their largest run of the game. Seward County went on a 16-0 run to take the lead 49-48 after a pair of free throws by Wilson Dubinsky at the 5:31 mark. 

With the momentum in their favor, Seward County extended the lead to a two-possession game after a made basket by McReed with 1:34 gave Seward County a 56-53 lead. The Thunderbirds played the foul game for the rest of the minute and a half but the Saints closed out the game to win 62-56.

McReed led the Saints with 15 points off of the bench and added five rebounds. Taye Donald had 13 points and six rebounds.

Seward County will face Independence on Saturday, December 4th at 8 PM.
