Saints suffer first home loss of the season 73-56 to Hutchinson

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College men's basketball team falls at home to Hutchinson Community College 73-56, the Saints are now 2-6 overall and in conference play. The Saints trailed by double-digits in the first half and could not get an offensive flow established against the Blue Dragons. Saints sophomore Stephen Takyi led the team with 13 points and four rebounds off of the bench.

the Saints scored first to start the game and took a 2-0 lead over the Blue Dragons but this was the only time that Seward led. Hutchinson responded with a 9-0 run and looked to take advantage of the Saints offensive early slump. After a 10-2 run the Saints were down 25-12with less than six minutes to go in the half. Mike Rivera connected on his first three-pointer of the season to snap the run and get Seward back within 10 points, 25-15. 

At the break, the Saints were down 32-23 and looked to get their offense on track for the next 20 minutes. 

In the Second half, the Blue Dragons added to their largest lead and took a 36-24 advantage over the Saints with less than 18 minutes left in the game. Seward continued to struggle offensively and was unable to get back within single digits. Hutchinson went on a 12-5 run to take a 59-42 advantage at the 6:53 mark of the game. In the final minute of the contest, Hutchinson held their largest lead of the game at 73-53 when Jordan Chambers connected from behind the three-point line with less than 30 seconds left. 

Other top scorers for Seward County tonight were Mike Rivera who had 10 points and two rebounds, and Ahamadou Sillah with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Saints are back in the Greenhouse for their next contest against Garden City Community College scheduled for 8 pm.
